SOLA Partners with The Imagination Library of Stoughton
SOLA (Support Our Library Association), the Friends of the Stoughton Public Library, are proud partners with Imagination Library of Stoughton. Dolly Parton's Imagination Library is dedicated to inspiring a love of reading by gifting books free of charge to children from birth to age five, through funding shared by Dolly Parton and local community partners in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia and Republic of Ireland. Inspired by her father's inability to read and write Dolly started her Imagination Library in 1995 for the children within her home county. Today, her program spans five countries and gifts millions of free books each month to children around the world. In 30 years the Imagination Library has registered over 3,197,250 children and gifted over 307,982,906 books.
The Imagination Library is proud to announce that largest-ever shared book reading study — analyzing data from more than 86,000 caregivers across five countries — confirms what so many families already know: Dolly Parton's Imagination Library dramatically strengthens early literacy skills.
Children enrolled in the program in the U.S. are
- 11x more likely to be interested in books
- 15x more likely to join in during shared reading
- 9x more likely to initiate shared reading
- Nearly 3x more likely to demonstrate concepts about print, with increases in counting and describing images
By mailing one free, high-quality book each month to children from birth to age five, Dolly Parton's Imagination Library helps build strong reading habits, meaningful family bonding moments, and a lifelong love of books.
Together, we're putting books into children's hands and opportunity into their futures.
